Music For The Bus

Doves - The Last BroadcastThis morning I was walking to the bus station and scrolling through the music on my iPod I came across The Last Broadcast by Doves. I hadn’t heard that in ages so I clicked play and carried on my merry way.

Maybe it was because the sun was out, maybe it was because there was a pretty girl on the bus when I got on, maybe it’s just because the music was great. Whatever it was, I was blown away.

From There Goes the Fear, through M62 Song and hitting New York it’s hard to find a duff track on this album. Soaring melodies, exciting lyrics and a general mix of awesomeness makes this album worth a fresh listen. I’m looking forward to the journey home when I can listen to the rest of the tracks.

So dig it out, dust it off and take it for a spin again.

Now I have to stop myself from logging on to Amazon and buying th rest of their albums…

Oh yes, very good album. I’ll have to dig it out again.

All the fuss around the new Portishead album (which, incidentally, you can stream it for free on last.fm) made me put Dummy on again the other day. I’d forgotten quite how good it is.

I also listened to Dummy again recently. It is quality but not really great for keeping the creative juices flowing in the office!

Do you rate the new stuff?

I really like the single (Machine Gun), but i’m not necessarily sold on the rest of the album yet. Think it’ll take a few listens. It’s incredibly dark and foreboding stuff.

I think last broadast was their peak (with the exception of cedar room single) lost souls and some cites were a bit mediocre, some great tracks but overall not as exceptional as LB. Will listen to it again when I get home.

Great album. Got into it after I heard the M62 Song on New Order’s Back To Mine compilation a few years back.
