Shudder, Groan, Pffffff….
Hmm it’s been a while. Things have been busy, really busy. The rain keeps falling, I keep failing to ride my bike and the work keeps piling up. In an effort to sort out that last one I decided to do some work from home this weekend. So I sit on the sofa with the laptop on my, er, lap. I switch on the rugby and set to work, glancing up every now and then to see England crumble (what a surprise). Three hours, a rugby match and a footie match (Wales v Czech Rep) later my laptop freezes. Bugger, did I hit save? CTRL, ALT + DEL doesn’t seem to be working. I guess I’ll have to turn it off then.
Turn it off.
Turn in on…
Try again to turn it on…
Begin to weep silently as it becomes apparent that it isn’t planning on coming back on any time soon.
So it seems that the motherboard has died. I’m waiting on Dell to call me back with a price on a new one. I am sooooo glad that it chose now to die having just spent a squillion pounds on my new Mac.
Sigh.
Anyone want to buy a slightly used kidney?
Slightly? I know it’s not Raj-esque but come on!
June 4th, 2007 at 11:37 amHa! Age means that I can no longer consume the amounts of alcohol I used to be able to.
I can drink meths like never before though.
June 4th, 2007 at 11:40 amAh, that explains it. My laptop dying was out of sympathy for yours.
Luckily it was only the power lead melting (!!!) on mine, and thankfully Apple have just sent me a new one under warranty. I think I’ll be buying the extra 2 years Applecare now
June 4th, 2007 at 12:55 pmWell, Dell want 257 squids to fix it. I declined the offer seeing as the laptop only cost 400 to begin with. So, do I buy a new motherboard on eBay for 155 notes or do I buy a new laptop?
June 4th, 2007 at 1:34 pmHow difficult is it to fit the new mobo? Would getting a new one be a significant upgrade?
Secondhand might be an avenue worth persuing - Tim managed to get himself a fairly high-spec laptop for £notalot from one of those cash converters type places on the lower high street.
June 4th, 2007 at 3:15 pmOK, I managed to source a motherboard on eBay for 130 notes. Fitting it will be a pain in the arse but it is far and away the cheapest option.
Coming Soon: The “I wasted 130 squids on a motherboard that I broke trying to fit it” post.
June 5th, 2007 at 12:34 pmGive the hubby a shout - I’m sure he’ll be only too willing to oblige after all the work you’ve given him! xx
