Steamboat CO
Well I'm back. In fact I’ve been back for 4 days now but have been too busy lazy to write anything.
Colorado rocked. We had bright sunshine (but no fresh powder unfortunately) and cheap food for a week. Yay!
After our 9 hour flight we landed in Denver airport (apparently the largest in the world, my guess is that's because there is nothing at all for miles in all directions so they figured "Hey, let's make it really massive"). We then got on a coach for our 3 hour transfer. Well, it should have been 3 hours. In fact it was 7 because a lorry had jackknifed in the I-70. Great. We finally roll up to the Hotel at 10:30pm and crash out.
Pretty much every day after that consisted of:
- Get up late
- Eat large breakfast
- Go out onto the slopes (handily placed just outside our back door)
- Ski/board for a few hours
- Arrive back at hotel for Happy Hour
- Have drinks with Tony and Dave (two chaps we befriended)
- Jump in the hot-tub
- Go out for large dinner
- Go to bed
Sounds rubbish eh? We also managed to do some shopping (well, an exchange rate of $2 to £1 is not to be sniffed at). I sprained my thumb on the second day which swelled up like a balloon and got progressively blacker as the week went on (well done me). Both Anne and I realised that being unfit and skiing/boarding at altitude is not a great plan.
Would I go again? Yes. The people are friendly (they strike up conversation on the lifts) and are genuinely surprised to hear that you only came to the States for a week in order to ski. The food is good (although you may find youself craving fresh fruit and veg by the end of a week). The snow was good (and it is generally much better that it was while we were there). The pistes are fun and varied.
All in all a great holiday. I have put up a gallery of our photos on the Galleries page. I have also chucked up a few other galleries that I should have put there ages ago!
Welcome back guys. Great photos. See you tomorrow!

March 23rd, 2007 at 12:29 amLooks nice - the slopes look really quiet! The hotel doesn’t look great though
March 23rd, 2007 at 9:07 amYeah, it was a bit drafty! It made me feel tense…
(gets coat)
Also, the slopes were busy compared to how they are usually - it was spring break so loads of yoof and families were there. It was still pretty much quieter than anywhere in europe though.
