Little Things
This morning I tried something new - I came to work on the bus. Not because I had to, due to lack of a car or a broken bike, but because I chose to ride the 833 to the 'Ford. Something very odd happened - I actually enjoyed it. I was able to sit on the bus, admiring the frosted countryside as the sun forced it's way over the horizon, listening to some chowns on my iPod. It was nice just to have this short period of calm first thing in the morning.
Admittedly, the fact that I had to leave the house at 6:45am to walk to the bus station was not ideal but I've been getting up early since Anne started working in Swindon (she is also communting by public transport) so an extra ten mintues earlier didn’t make a huge difference.
The buses home aren't terribly regular though - the closest one to 5pm runs at 6:35pm. Still, I should be able to catch a lift with one of the USN boys if I fancy leaving a bit earlier.
So why have I done this? Well, I don't need to bring a car to work with me because I don't leave the office much during the day. If I am not going to be super-green and ride my bike then I think I should be quite green and use public transport. All these little things that we can do to help the environment add up to make a big difference.
Try it - you might like it.
Addendum: If you are thinking of changing your mobile why not see if you can get cash for your old one by getting it recycled (and making a contribution to charity to boot). Even if you have a really old phone you can send it to them for recycling for free. Check out envirofone.com for more.
I get a free bus pass (no I am not a pensioner yet!!) because I am a student and I find buses fascinating!! There are so many different people on them
February 7th, 2007 at 10:45 amI spend over an hour on busses every day, cant say im the biggest fan. We’re moving back into town soon though so I can walk to work which will be a lot better
I remember catching the Coach from Cheltenham towards Oxford, thats was interesting as they used to drive like a loon through Andoversford (spelt?) and would often come close to hitting (and in several occasions actually hitting) cars and buildings!
February 7th, 2007 at 1:44 pmWalking is good too. I’d rather spend an hour on the bus that an hour driving.
