Marble Cake: The Beginning

I'm in my new office and so far it's pretty good. I have lots of room and it has freed up a lot of extra space in my house (yay). Unfortunately I had to take my 23" Apple screen back to the supplier as it was suffering with image burn-in on static images after only about 10 minutes of inactivity. Apparently they've had a few 23" screens with this problem and it seems to be triggered by the hardware you hook them up to. Connecting to a Mac has no issues (apparently). Connecting to my PC with a Radeon 9800 Pro has triggered it so they are ordering me a replacement. To be fair they have been really good about it (not trying to palm me off with some weak excuse) so a big shout out to Grafx. That's the benefit of not buying through the internet.

So far I'm enjoying:

  • Working away from home
  • Having plenty of space
  • The prospect of a new brand

What's not so good is:

  • Broken Apple Screen
  • Early morning Cheltenham traffic
  • Still feeling a bit snotty

Once I have a logo and site etc, I'll post more details…

Also, a big shout out to my Mum who is celebrating her birthday today!

Afterthought: Also, iTunes has a funky new way of browsing your albums which I like very much. It also now downloads the album artwork for any albums you import - well done Apple, you are only about 1 year late with that feature.

    WHAT WHAT WHAAAAAT?!
you’re connecting a Cinema Display to a PEECEEE?

    /audiance gasps

    Bad Owen!

  2. Owen Says:

    Sorry.

It’s only until Adobe release CS3 at which point I shall purchase that along with a MacPro. I may need to sell a kidney to pay for it all though.

  3. matt Says:

    YAY!
and by the time CS3 is out the Mac Pro will have been bumped up a grade so will be better value.

  4. Owen Says:

Exactly my thinking - hopefully it means I’ll avoid all the inevitable first-gen Apple hardware issues.

Just like I have with the screen.

    :-P

  5. matt Says:

    LOL!

No issues with my MBPro yet … But still a wise choice…!! Mmmmm It is soooo beautifulll… xx

Porblems with Apple stuff? surely not :-p

So now you have your own office are you thinking outside of the box and other great cliches yet? We have a new boss at work and he starts most things off with “I dont want to sound like David Brents but…”

  8. Sean Says:

    Sounds really cool.

Is CinDee holding up - or are you driving?

I wish I had the guts, or talent, to go self emp. Or a lottery win while I’m wishing.

  9. Owen Says:

Sin:Dee is holding up fine - I haven’t ridden in yet due to still having the last vestiges of my cold hanging on. That and the fact that I have been carrying stuff to and from the office every day that would be too large to carry on my bike.

iTunes 7 is an ugly motherhubbard, and not altogether stable IME :(

  11. SimonB Says:

Oooh, ta for that Olly, will hold off on the “upgrade”

  12. Owen Says:

Hmm, I think it’s an improvement myself - more logical grouping down the left hand side. As for its stability, I can’t say it’s failed to do anything I’ve asked of it as yet.

  13. Sean Says:

But you havn’t been asking it to make toast, drive the car or plan an elborate plot to steal the crown jewels and make a get away in a stolen nuclear sub though have you?

Some people demand sooo much from their music software.

  14. Olly Says:

Hmm, it fell over a few times in the first couple of days, but it seems to have settled down now. Most odd.

Maybe I’m being picky, but the scroll-bars look absolutely rubbish compared to all the others in OS-X. The small-caps titles in the sidebar grate, too. They’ve got rid of the icon for the Equaliser *and* the hot-key aswell. BOO HISS! Mind you, I can be a bit of a UI facist at times.

I can recommend Uno for Mac OS though: It unifies all of the different GUI toolkits into one common theme. Lovely.

  15. Owen Says:

Actually I have found something I don’t like about iTunes 7. You can no longer sort by Album, you can only sort by Album Year or Album Artist.

In the olden days you could sort by album and it would keep the tracks in their correct order but now, when I do a sort by album on, for instance, MOS: Chillout Sessions it mixes all the tracks up so that the seamless mixing is ruined.

I could sort by track number but what if I have more than one album selected?

    That is annoying.

  16. Sara Says:

Hmmm.. I should read in chronological order rather than backwards because I had no idea y ou got an office outside of the home!

  17. Olly Says:

I had that with several albums, too. I selected them, did the “Get Info” thing, then added an Album Artist and it sorted it out. Not quite sure what was happening there though…
