Sin:Dee Done
The final collection of bits arrived today so I was able to finish the Sin:Dee build. So I have bought:
- Headset
- Bottom bracket
- Jockey wheel
- Cables
- V-Brake blocks
- Seatpost
- Front wheel
- Rear QR
- Seatpost collar
- Chain
- Road tyres
- Grips
All that cost me about £83 plus £50 of Leisure Lakes vouchers I had knocking about. I also managed to raise £60 by selling the BMX so in all it's cost me twenty-three squids. Yay! I now have a bargain road bike just in time for commuting to my new office every day (more on that soon…).

The forks will need replacing at some point at the brace has a slight crack by one of the bolt and one of the lower-legs also has a crack where the brake boss screws in. It's not very urgent though. I’m even toying with the idea of going really old school and getting some Project 2 forks thus shunning all this new-fangled suspension technology, unless I can get a bargain pair of suspension forks second-hand (anyone got any to sell?)
Looks sweet!
Go for rigids, that’d be cool! It’d be your first step on the road to becoming a cycle courier - next up you’d need SPDs, then you’d go singlespeed, then you can get some wierd handlebars before finally going fixie.
August 21st, 2006 at 4:04 pmEr, not sold on the single speed idea but the rigids would be cool. They are only 40 quid to so much cheaper than boingers.
Fixed wheel is for nutters.
August 21st, 2006 at 4:09 pmCycle couriers generally are nutters
August 21st, 2006 at 5:23 pmLooks ace! Definitely get some rigid forks. I have some P2s kicking about, not sure how long the steerer is though (they’re 280 miles away atm, my tape measure won’t reach)
August 21st, 2006 at 7:47 pmI’ve only ridden it a couple of times but my body seems to remember the Kona geometry pretty well. I’d forgotten what a difference slicks make when riding on tarmac - it’s soooo much easier (Olly, you shoudl put some on the CommuterCove). I’ll put in some proper miles on it at the end of this week and see how we get on.
@SimonB - if you find those forks I might well be interested in purchasing them off you. My frame is a 17-incher so I expect that the steerer is long enough unless you are a tiny person what rides tiny bikes!
August 22nd, 2006 at 8:56 am@Olly - Are you thinking of the Tyres character in ‘Spaced?’ Now that was a nutter.
