Feeling My Age
About a year or two ago I used to ride with Tim Hatcher and his gang on Tuesday nights. I was fitter then (and younger) and used to really enjoy it. However, over the last few years I have become something of a slacker on the old bike and it's only this year that I have started riding (semi) regularly again. With that in mind I hooked up with Tim and the Tuesday Night Gang (or TuNG as I like to think of them) last night. Hmm, not so wise.
Tim was kind enough to give me a lift to Daisybank car park so I didn't have the horible trawl across town to contend with but with this being my 3rd ride in 5 days my legs were protesting after about 500 metres riding. I pushed on through and, to be fair, had a great ride. I caught up with Neil who I hadn't seen since last going to archery almost 10 months ago, and enjoyed chatting to some vaguely familiar faces and some brand new ones! Unfortunately Olly couldn't make it because he was on a date.
On the last climb I really did hit the wall though - I thought I was going to start weeping in pain. Still, I pushed on through and managed to lead a group down the crazy porno-themed tracks that Brett et al have built.
I declined a lift back into town, thinking that the roll back to my house would be a nice warm-down. I regretted that as soon as I started having to pedal again (yes Tim, I should have taken you up on the offer of a lift). After 17.6 miles of riding I was home and utterly shattered. I made myself some comedy pasta (the sauce was made of olive oil, chillis, tomatoes, ginger and soy sauce - Weon's comedy cooking strikes again), downed the cold beer that had been calling to me and then crashed out.
Man, I'm getting old but really beginning to get back into this riding malarky which also has the added bonus of stopping my knee from hurting any more. Yay!
Olly was on a date? Blimey. Oh and what’s a porno-themed track?
