Travels: Day 13 - Chilling in Kalbarri
Having worn ourselves out over the previous two days we decide that today is to be a day of taking it easy. We all have a lie in and then it's time for bacon sarnies, cooked by yours truly, in order to start the day. The weather doesn't look too great so we decide to head to the Kalbarri Rainbow Jungle, a parrot sanctuary on the road into Kalbarri that is home to many species of parrot, parakeet and cockatoo. Due to the slightly inclement weather and the fact that it is coming into winter the place is pretty quiet. The good thing about this is that it means there are fewer people to get in our way!

To be honest I was expecting to be disappointed by this place, especially as we had been warned off it's neighbouring attraction (the seahorse sanctuary) due to it's lack of interesting displays. I couldn't have been more wrong. The place rocked. Once I had got over the high levels of squarking and screeching (Olly and Anne just can't hold it in sometimes) there was loads to enjoy. Admittedly, if you don't like birds then this probably isn't the place for you.

I lost count of the number of birds we saw and I took far too many photos. The highlight is the walk-through aviary full of brightly coloured birds, some of which will swoop right by your ear in a concerted effort to freak you out. This place had been built pretty much solely by the founders of the place and was a testament to their commitment to keeping the many spieces of parrots alive.
From here we went to find the Natural Bridge and Castle Cove, two well known local coastal sights. Hmm, not the most exciting places on earth it must be said. The Natural Bridge was very underwhelming but Castle Cove at least looked spectacular, even if it wasn't exactly awe-inspiring.

We head back for lunch, a feast of all the best food we can find in the local supermarket and then head straight back out again to find Kalbarri Family Entertainment Centre, the main attraction of which was not the mini-golf we were planning on playing but the 'Modern Kiosk' which took pride of place on their flyer! The weather was closing in as we paid for our golf at the very modern kiosk but being professional sportsmen we weren't deterred. Olly slowly but surely worked his way into the lead and was seemingly unbeatable until he threw it all away on the back nine and snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.

Satisfied with my win we headed back to chill for a while before heading to the Grass Tree restaurant for our last meal in Kalbarri. Those of you who know Anne will testify to her being a bit of a foodie but also being a bit of a "Monica" when it comes to mess. I was surprised when she ordered the crab without first establishing it was shelled. It wasn't. It got very messy and Anne got very annoyed. Not quite the evening we had hoped for but sure enough it's given us much amusement since!
SQUAAARRRKKKK!!!!

Someone we met while travelling - they said it had been a little small and disappointing so we decided to do the parrot place instead.
To be honest, I think we would have chosen to do the parrot place anyway!
