30 Going On 15
Today I turned 30. Did I have a nervous breakdown? No. It's just another year and if anything I've been looking forward to it. I feel like a grown up now, even if I fail to act like one. To celebrate I spent all my birthday money at once and ordered myself a U2 iPod. Even though it's more expensive than a standard iPod (which is in turn more expensive than most of its rivals) it's what I wanted and I am very excited. I almost caved and bought a Nintendo DS instead but thought I would use the iPod more.

So, what have I learned over the last 30 years? Well, money is less important than I originally thought (I only really learned this in the last year) and, conversely, people are more important. Bikes are ace. Happiness is more important than success. Sunshine is infinitely preferable to rain, as is frost. People are capable of incredible acts of cruelty but also incredible acts of love. No-one can drink a pint of Guinness (Paltrow) quicker than Pete. The power of a compliment is almost always underestimated. Green sweets are invariably nasty (unless you are Olly). The world is worth seeing after all. It is possible to love someone even more after eight years of marriage. Mistakes are to be expected and can almost always be corrected. Often, the people you don't like to begin with become the greatest friends.
But most importantly, God's love and grace will never fail, which is fortunate as I never seem to stop screwing things up!
To all my friends and family - thanks! Here's to the next 30 years!

Happy birthday to you sir

Green sweets are nasty. I’ve always said so, but it is good to see that there is an anti-green sweet lobby.
No one can drink Guiness as fast as Pete, never mind faster.
Happy birthday duder.

Green sweets rock harder than the Jovi*! As if to prove it I shall eat this handy green Haribo (provided in payment for some work on the intranet. Winner). YUM.
* To be fair, most snails rock harder than the Jovi.

June 29th, 2006 at 12:07 pmWeon,
how can you allow these green-sweet eating miscreants to post on your site… I thought you had some kinda filter to check these things?
ps thats green-sweet eating miscreants, not green sweet-eating miscreants - which are obviously a different bunch altogether.

SBG - I don’t discriminate against green-sweet eating miscreants, they have enough problems already.
Pete - I couldn’t possibly say, but it has happened very often with me.

July 2nd, 2006 at 3:44 pmHmm, I never thought of it like that!
Maybe I should add the caveat that I don’t dislike everyone when I meet them!

Anyway, take pleasure in knowing you will always be 9 months younger than me.
