Yay!
New bikes arrived this morning.

They look pretty rocking. The Kona looks better in the flesh than in photos. It also has a teeny tiny frame so ideal for Anne to ride or for me to throw about. Not sure the fork is up to much punishment but it should do the job. Everything on the Orange looks sweet with the exception of the resin pedals it came with. I suspect that because the bike came from Orange and they have a policy of forcing you to pay extra for pedals (what is that about?) then the bike shop just threw in the cheapest pedals they had. Also, the front disk brake appear to rattle slightly but I don't know if that is normal or not.
I haven't ridden either yet as I have far too much work to do. In fact I won't be surprised if I don't get to ride until next week now
.
Update: New Shimano M545 SPD pedal are on the way to me. Thanks to Dale at Wheelies Direct who has been a great help to me - he rocks!
Come on tell us how your scam works ?
April 26th, 2006 at 11:05 amI’d be glad too to get brand new bikes for free!
Ooooh, shiny!
April 26th, 2006 at 11:09 amHey, this is a scam-free zone. I do have some Spam though if you fancy it.
Olly - I might just get you to have a look at the brakes for me. I know nothing about disk brakes but I’m sure the front one shouldn’t rattle the way it does! I also think that SBG is about to cave and buy a new bike!
April 26th, 2006 at 12:54 pmDid you also replace the hinges on your back door with screws to make it nice and accessible?
April 26th, 2006 at 4:17 pmOwen - I’d be happy to. I’m not convinced it should rattle either. First thing to do is make sure everything is done up nice and tight of course…
(SBG - I double-dare you to get a new bike!)
April 26th, 2006 at 4:41 pmOlly - I figured out why they are rattling. The little springy thing (I think it’s called a spring) that seperates the pads is missing meaning they are free to rattle around like rattly things. A quick trip to Leeshur Lacks is in order.
Pete - In my mind I am coming up with new ways to help foil the thieving types. Now, where can I buy land mines..?
April 27th, 2006 at 8:13 amOwen, I’d try some animatronic kittens that will look so cute no thief in this world would carry their evil deeds.
April 27th, 2006 at 9:34 amHave you ridden it yet?
May 1st, 2006 at 9:41 pmWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT
I’ve been out on my Scott 05 Genius MC 20. It is a wonder to behold. I rode through the FoD with Debbie (she is now the proud but slightly jealous owner of a Scott 02 Racing MTB). After riding mine for a while, I rode on the oldun, and you know what… The seat was at an appalling angle - a small adjustment later - no sore neck.
Man oh man - got to get out alot more.
Owen - get your self-employed, too busy to ride butt out there. New bikes are brill.
May 2nd, 2006 at 7:08 amWhat happened there?
May 2nd, 2006 at 7:08 amYou broke my site.
Oh, I managed to ride the bike on Sunday but only down the cycle path to the station and back. I still haven’t got pedals that will last more that 5 minutes so until they arrive I sahn’t be going off road (that and the fact that I am really busy).
May 2nd, 2006 at 9:10 amStuff work and pedals, just go and ride
May 2nd, 2006 at 9:20 amYeah, bolt your ankles to the cranks
May 2nd, 2006 at 9:42 amUnfortunately my left ankle doesn’t have a reverse thread so I can’t do that.
May 2nd, 2006 at 9:44 amI have an old pair of SPDs you can have… that I replaced with the 545s with the chrome cage. YUM

May 11th, 2007 at 1:02 pmWell done.
Remember, it’s not the bike though, it’s the rider…
May 11th, 2007 at 1:06 pmoi i was asking bout ur cinder cone. is there any upgrades u suggest?
May 19th, 2007 at 3:42 amOi, no. The Cinder Cone wasn’t for me so I have only ridden it a few times.
Ride it first and decide for yourself what you want to upgrade.
