A Great "Feature"
InDesign. I use it lots. It's a pro-level DTP package that is slowly but surely replacing Quark. I'm currently using CS (can't afford CS2 yet) and it works pretty well. However, today I discovered a weakness. Before I send jobs to the printers I tend to convert all text to outlines to avoid nasty font sharing issues. However, if I have created a bulletted list, this cunningly removes all the bullets instead of converting them. Without me noticing. Leading to another delay on the already rushed job. Grrrrr.
I used CS2… and system hang happened in the very usual cases. For a long time I tried to fix the source of the trouble and now use CS again.
May 22nd, 2006 at 12:49 pmYou can legally supply all fonts used in a job to the printers with the artwork. The printer has the right to use them for the output of your job only.
This is normal practice.
July 31st, 2006 at 1:28 pmHmm, ‘normal’ is a pretty subjective term. A lot of printers prefer to have text converted to outlines to avoid any font issues that may arise. Certainly the majority of printers I use prefer this method of working. This also sidesteps problems when working on a WinPC and sending artwork to a Mac-based printers (or indeed vice-versa).
