Recommend-A-Track
OK, thanks to a cheeky offer that Mr Jones pointed me in the direction of I got some free song credits for the iTunes Store. I have used 1 already so have 11 left. What I'm after is recommendations for single tracks that rock. To see what I listen to check out my Last.fm profile page but don't take it to mean that I won't listen to anything other than Linkin Park!
So, recommend me a track or two and I'll grab them from the iTunes Store. Oh, I have to use the credits by 13th March so get thinking!
Update
OK, here are my thoughts on the tracks I went for
- JCB - Nizlopi
Just a beautiful song. The lyrics are so simple but it manages to conjure up a real picture of childhood innocence. A joy. - No One Knows - Queens of the Stone Age
A classic "Oh it's THAT song" moment. It is a great track that made me want to buy the album. - Even Tho - Joseph Arthur
I still have no idea who this is but it's a nice track. I think it's a grower and will take a few listens to really click with me. - Soul To Squeeze - Red Hot Chili Peppers
Standard Chili Peppers fare. The good thing about that is that satndard Chili Peppers fare is better than most other stuff! - Tchaikovsky: the 1812 - Bond
Hmm, another attempt to sex up and modernise classical music. It kind of works but seems to get a bit lost and confused halfway through. - Bat Country - Avenged Sevenfold
Made me laugh as soon as it started! Classic rawk with heavy riffs followed by quiet guitar-led interludes. Seemed highly incongruous following the previous track! - Radio / Video - System of a Down
A great track. Never really listened to System of a Down before but I soon will be. Quite an individual sound (parts of it reminded me of The Specials!) - Who Knows Where the Time Goes? - Fairport Convention
Classic 70s female vocals lead a very mellow track. I think I need more of this to listen to during the day while I work. - Dance Me to the End of Love - Madeleine Peyroux
Listening to this track conjures up images of smoky jazz clubs in the 1930s. Classic jazz vocal stylings. Very cool. - Hoppipolla - Sigur Ros
Icelandic music at its mellow best, starting small and slowly building. I have no idea what they are saying but the title means Hopping into Puddles. - I Get Around - The Beach Boys
A great track that I didn't already have but do now. Always makes me think of summer. - My Baby Just Cares for Me - Nina Simone
Aardman animated cats aside, this is a great track. Simple but effective.
Why don’t i see any Queens of the Stone Age on there?
March 2nd, 2006 at 2:30 amRight now I’m really liking “Life in the Rain” by Quantic, from the album The 5th Exotic.
And in a complete genre switch, Sara’s right, you need some QOTSM in your life.”No One Knows”, “First it Giveth” and “Go with the Flow” from Songs for the Deaf are good.
A few others for you on more of a chill-out tip: “Fade Into You” by Mazzy Star, “Billie Jean” by Shinehead, “Hercules” by Aaron Neville, “Who Knows Where the Time Goes?” by Fairport Convention, “Useless (the K&D Session)” by Depeche Mode.
March 2nd, 2006 at 10:25 amIf you dont have it look for “soul to squeeze” by the RHCP, its on their greatest hits I believe.
Get “even tho” from Joseph Arthurs latest album “our shadows will remain” its a great song. The whole album is great in fact.
Ooh Olly did you know Merz has a new album out? Its ok not as good as the one you had mind. Owen if you can find it get Merz “Engine Heart” thats a great song
March 2nd, 2006 at 12:14 pmI like “1812″ by Bond, but it is old.
On my phone I am listening to:
Black7 by Soil
Killing Time by (hed)PE
Private road by Bent
Radio-Video by System of a Down
Revenga by SoaD
Shutdown by OSI
Oh Yeah - by Yello
I am also liking Madeline Peroux (spelling?) as she is a funky french sounding jazzy bluesy singer. Puddle of Mud is good - esp ‘Control’.
So thats one heck of a mix of genres
sry.
March 2nd, 2006 at 12:25 pmHow about ‘Paving Slab’ or ‘Gardener Clay’ by The Flying Toasters?
I hear they have a kick ass album cover designed on a computer and everything.
Other than that, the only new(ish) song i have heard is called ‘Bat Country’ by Avenged Sevenfold. It’s quite heavy but with excellent drums and guitars. Although I am not 30 and probably too old for all this ‘youngsters’ noise.
March 2nd, 2006 at 12:43 pmLast comment should have read: ‘…am NOW 30…’. Must have been a subconcious thing..
March 2nd, 2006 at 1:13 pmNot really a track, more a collection of tracks but some of the iTunes people have done a (nearly) complete listing of Burnout 3 tracks. Those who have played the game will know that pretty much every tune rocks on that game. Indeed, I registered twice and got pretty much all of them for free . Some favourites include:
Heart Full of Black - Burning Brides (very Jet-esque)
March 2nd, 2006 at 2:28 pmJust Tonight - Jimmy Eat World
Hoppipolla from the brilliant Sigur Ros, as featured on the BBC advert for Planet Earth, amazing song
March 2nd, 2006 at 8:25 pmOK, here is my proposed list:
No One Knows - Queens of the Stone Age
Even Tho - Joseph Arthur
Engine Heart - Merz EDIT: Hmm, not available. Any track from Loveheart is available though - any recommendations?
1812 - Bond
Bat Country - Avenged Sevenfold
Radio-Video - System of a Down
Who Knows Where the Time Goes? - Fairport Convention
Dance Me to the End of Love - Madeleine Peyroux
Hoppipolla - Sigur Ros
Get Around - Beach Boys
My Baby Just Cares For Me - Nina Simone
I have the following in reserve in case some of those aren’t available:
Soul to Squeeze - Chili Peppers
Over The Counter Culture - Ordinary Boys
Most of the tracks I am going for is stuff I’ve never heard - it’s always good to broaden the musical horizons. In fact, here is another mention for MixedTape, the only good thing (apart from the oddly-named and totally bonkers SLR) to come from Mercedes Benz.
March 4th, 2006 at 5:08 pmI think I’d prefer an SL55 AMG myself
March 5th, 2006 at 6:35 pmPete,
I imported an album because of that game - Moments In Grace - Track is…cannot remember. - anyway - good cd, a bit fall out boy - ish

March 6th, 2006 at 8:55 amGood list Owen, i’d say go for Soul To Squeeze over getting a track from Merz ‘loveheart’ album as its stupendously better
Hope you like my choices, if not… erm blame Olly… just cause.
March 6th, 2006 at 9:15 amGood to see the reviews.
Peyroux is very cool. I bought it for Debbie at Christmas.. I have heard it a few time - I might nick it for my car.
SoaD are quite good - I’ll lend you some SoaD albums (I have them all)
Tracks to look out for are:
Soldier Side (both parts on Hypnotize and Mezmerize)
Mezmerize: BYOB, Violent Pornography (ironic song - very anti the subject), Old School Hollywood.
Toxicity: Toxicity, Chop Suey, Aerials, Bounce, Psycho.
Steal This Album: Chic N’ Stu, A.D.D, I-E-A-I-A-I-O.
The Bond track is a good portion of the whole thing, so the bits that are remembered are the bits at the end… It is a great walking track / cycling track.
