Phew, What a Week!
What a week this has been. Having recovered from Pete and Helen's wedding, I dived into some hardcore CSS work. The site I am working on is not one of the prettiest I have ever designed. In fact, I think it looks horrible but what the client asks for, the client gets. I was determined that what the site lacks in visual panache it would gain in CSS and standards compatability.
I then got a call from the place that Pete works asking if I could do some Flash work for them. I said no worries, I can get that done in a couple of days. However, time passed and I still had nothing to work with until the source FLA arrived on Wednesday AM. For completion on Wednesday. I was not too pleased but knuckled down at 7am.
If you are anything like me, working on something that has been built by someone else is never great fun. I have set ways of working and trying to work out how someone else has done things takes a while so when I opened up the FLA and saw monster timelines, scenes and very little scripting, I knew it was going to be tough. However, Flash 8 Pro has some funky new components, the most useful of which was the FLVPlayer for playing Flash Video. This made my life easier for about, oooh, 5 minutes. What I don't understand is how Macrodobe have made Flash excellent at handling video but totally crap at handling sound. The problems were compounded by the fact that the FLA is was working in used scenes meaning that it was impossible to get a single sound loop as a seamless background track for the entire presntation.
So wednesday was a 15 hour day. Not fun. Big thanks go to Sara for cheering me up yesterday when my brain was fried!
I now am faced with the prospect of trying to switch a client's site hosting without interrupting their mail. This is made more difficult by the fact that they use a third party mail screen/filter to remove all the pr0n and other crap that gets sent their way. I don't want to do it but it'll give me the flexibility to do what I want on their site so I have to.
I'm also toying with the idea of going contracting to earn some extra cash.
It’s Anne's birthday this weekend (she'll be 30) so I have to buy her something nice. I'm struggling to know what and to compound the problem, other people keep asking me for ideas!
Anyhoo, I thought I'd touch base. Hopefully I'll get out on my bike this weekend, maybe tomorrow when Anne is at the theatre with her friend - anyone fancy joining me?
Owen, you are my hero. I love you.
