Christmas Top Fives

Top Fives

Well, Christmas has been and gone. It was the least Christmassy Christmas I have had in years, possibly ever! I think the main contributor was the fact that I was drowning in my own snot for most of it. Lovely. I have decided to to a top five good and bad things of the season. They are not really in any order of goodaciousness/badicity, it's just how they came out of my head.

Top Five Christmas Things That Rocked

  • A haul of CDs - I can't afford to buy much music at the moment so the 8 CDs I got were a welcome addition to my collection! for those interested they were Franz Ferdinand (Franz Ferdinand), The Magic Numbers (The Magic Numbers), American Idiot (Green Day), In Between Dreams (Jack Johnson), Demon Days (Gorillaz), Hot Fuss (The Killers), Audioslave (Audioslave) and Late Registration (Kanye West - Mr Pollard's favourite)
  • Lunch - My wife is an awesome cook. She loves food and loves cooking. Add to that the fact that she really can cook up a storm and you have a recipe (excuse the pun) for success. Homemade cranberry sauce, maple syrup carrots and a scrummy Christmas pudding with butterscotch sauce. Nothing over/undercooked - perfect.
  • Doctor Who - David Tennant is going to be a good Doctor Who if the Christmas special was anything to go by.
  • Break from work - I've had about a week and a half off due to illness and Christmas. It has given me a new perspective on work and renewed vigour for the coming year. I think it's going to be a good one for Owen Clay Designs.
  • Seeing Family - We saw loads of family this Christmas and it was great to catch up with aunts, uncles, cousins, brothers, sisters and everyone else. I just hope I haven't made them all ill!

Top Five Christmas Things That Sucked

  • Man-Flu - Have I mentioned I was ill?
  • Shopping - Christmas shopping sucks. People are stupid and they wander aimlessly getting in the way of those of us who know what they want and where they want to go. Plus, there are always people who you can't thing of an appropriate gift for.
  • Too much food - My waistline really didn't need adding to. Did that stop me? No. I also have done no exercise. None at all. Zilch. Nada. Put those two things together and you have a recipe for becoming a Jabba the Hut stand-in. I really need to get out on the bike soon.
  • All other TV - Everything that wasn't Dr Who was shite. Without exception.
  • Spending too much - I can't help it. I always spend more than I should, particularly on Anne's present. She is so good to me I try to make up in my own futile way by buying an extravagant gift. Pathetic isn't it?

So what did you get your wife for Christmas? What were your favorite presents?

  2. Simon Says:

I have 7 of those CD’s no prizes for guessing which one I don’t (can’t believe you got that :-p). I would highly recommend Arcade Fire ‘funeral’ as your next purchase/gift, great album.

You forgot top gear and the toy programe by the old dude from Top Gear as good TV along with Dr Who. Otherwise it all sucked I agree.

Shop online, real life shopping is bad. Plus you can get stuff sent to your folks house for free and not take up lots of room on the train, bargain ;-)

Hope you feel better for new years eve, manflu is such a pain.

Sara - I bought my wife a Fossil watch. It looks like this but has the animation of this. My favourite present is still my CDs but season 4 of Alias on DVD comes pretty close.

Simon - I did most of my shoping online (god bless Amazon) but still had to go into town for a few things. People still seem to be in that Christmas dopey state - I almost went postal in Tesco yesterday due to people faffing all over the place. I also missed Top Gear which is a shame. Not heard of Arcade Fire so will check it out!

  4. Sara Says:

I will second The Arcade Fire. It’s very good.

Also, is the manflu much different from the chickflu?

Hello! I came across your site from a yahoo search. I must say the content here is sweet. If I may post my opinion I also agree with the above views. Good job :-)
